Item Description

Effective social interactions do not come naturally to many children with learning difficulties. However, they are vital for developing and maintaining relationships, and for independent living outside of school. Socially Speaking is a pragmatic social skills programme for pupils with mild to moderate learning difficulties. It lasts a whole school year and is divided into three units – Let’s communicate – Let’s be friends – Let’s practise. As pupils progress through the programme, their self-esteem will increase, their listening skills will improve and their language skills will blossom. Improved expressive skills and the confidence they give a child will benefit the whole school. Social Speaking contains teacher’s notes, illustrated photocopiable resources, and assessment and evaluation forms.
