Upside Downs Education TrustHelping kids with Down Syndrome find their voice

Solitaire Henare has recently been appointed to the role of Outreach Coordinator for the UpsideDowns Education Trust (“the Trust”). Solitaire fills a role created by the Trust to extend their reach and engage with families in Auckland who haven’t traditionally accessed support from the Upsidedowns Education Trust. Solitaire is busy promoting Option 3, a new funding option, to groups and agencies across Auckland.

The UpsideDowns Education Trust was established in 2003 to support the language and communication needs of children with Down Syndrome. The Trust currently has funds available to assist with the costs of private speech-language therapy for children from birth to 18 years with Down Syndrome whose families cannot otherwise afford this opportunity.

If a family has a child with Down Syndrome who needs extra help to develop their communication, the family can receive 50% to 80% of the costs of private speech language therapy (to a yearly maximum). In special circumstances a family may be eligible to apply for Option 3 and receive up to 100% of the costs of therapy (to a yearly maximum).
